About the Steenbuck:
Steenbuck (Raphicerus campestris), are a petite species of antelope. They have long, slender legs, a light-brown coat and an upward stance. They are solitary creatures and aren’t very social at all. They usually live in pairs especially when mating.
When scared, Steenbuck will lie down on the ground and freeze until danger has left the area. They are preyed on by all main predators such as Lions, Leopards, Hyenas and Pythons. Their young is usually preyed on by Lizards, Eagles and Hyena.
Steenbuck are found in open grassland in Southern Africa, as well as East Africa, with lots of tree shade. They are grazers and fee usually on grasses but can be seen eating twigs, berries, leaves and foliage.
They are active during the daytime and are independent of drinking water as they get their moisture from the diet they consume.
