Wheelchair Foundation

The Wheelchair Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness about the needs and capabilities of people with physical disabilities. Our mission is to promote the joy of giving, foster global friendships, and provide wheelchairs to children, teens, and adults who need mobility but cannot afford it. Through our efforts, we bring hope, mobility, and independence to those in need.

It is estimated that over 100 million people worldwide require a wheelchair but lack the resources to obtain one. In some developing countries, up to 6% of the population faces mobility challenges, with even higher rates in regions affected by war and landmines, such as Angola (20% of the population), Afghanistan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Bosnia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, and Mozambique. In South Africa alone, between 10% and 20% of the population lives with disabilities.

In May 2024, Charli Butterfield from the Wheelchair Foundation travelled to South Africa to distribute wheelchairs, made possible through matching grants from our long-time supporter, HEDCO. We are also grateful for the continued support of Lifeform Taxidermy and extend a special thank you to our newest partner, Kylah Beukes, whose dedication was instrumental in organizing these distributions.
