ORYX

The Oryx is a very large antelope with striking features. They have a thick black mane and dark brown coat with distinctive white and black markings on the underbellies. There are dark triangular markings on the heads.The female’s horns are usually longer and thinner than the males. They are very social animals and live in herds of up to 600 members. The new-born Oryx is always able to run with the herd immediately after birth

Habitat

The Oryx species range from Kenya to Tanzania, as well as Southern Africa. They all prefer deserts and can survive without water for a very long period of time. Their diet consists of coarse grasses and leaves, roots and thorny shrubs.They choose to search for food during the early morning and late afternoon. Plants collect dew and release it during the hottest parts of day and so the Oryx prefer hot weather.
